Coding has always been something that has kept me going and made me happy. I like to try solve problem with technology to try to delight someone’s day. Over this past weekend, I wanted to build something, so I tapped my long-time friend and Untappd moderator, Chris Betz, and see if we could build something that was a heavily requested feature on Untappd, as an add-on using it’s API.

The goal was see if we could create something quickly, to see if had any interest from the community and seeing what the next steps in terms of deeper integration with Untappd. I get it —it’s odd to see a founder of platform, build an API app instead of just building into the existing app —however I wanted to see how successful it was with the community and get it out quickly.

So without further ado, I bring you Beer Memories! Beer Memories is a simple app that allows you to login with your Untappd account, and it tells you what beers you had on this day for life of your account. It shows a history of all the beers you had, including where it was checked in, your rating, badges earned, your note and even a photo if one was posted.

The site is works on desktop and mobile devices via your browser, and even has a way for you to share the whole day or individual items with friends on social networks. The goal of the app was to create some nostalgic about past events to to cheer us up give the pandemic that we are all in. If you are fan of Timehop, it’s similar, but just for your beer check-ins!

Also, Beer Memories sends you a daily email (you can opt out in your settings), with a digest of your day in beer history. It’s a great way to get a quick view into what beers you were drinking in the past.

As for the technology side, this was a hack-day project that was completed in weekend, and tweaked this week based on early feedback. The app is build on the NextJS, using ReactJS and serverless hosting with Vercel. It has been a real breeze to work with and really fun learning NextJS - it’s very powerful.

So if you are interesting in seeing your Beer Memories, head over to https://beermemories.com and check out your history and follow Beer Memories on Twitter for all the updates!

If you have feedback on features, bugs or anything else — I’d love to hear it! Send me a tweet to @gregavola!
